'First Date' Exclusive Clip: A Teen Buys A Terrible Car To Impress A Girl In This Sundance Comedy

A first date can really be stressful. What do you wear? What do you say? Do you try to act cooler than you actually are or just be yourself? And if you’re a teenager without a car, what the hell are you going to drive to pick your date up in? Well, that’s just the beginning of the problems that face shy teen Mike in the aptly titled Sundance film, “First Date.”

With the premiere of “First Date” this weekend at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival, we’re happy to give our readers an exclusive clip from the film that shows just one of the obstacles that stand in the way of Mike and his date with Kelsey. You see, Mike decided that he needed a car to go on a date with Kelsey, so he buys a ‘65 Chrysler, which makes him a target for local police, who pull him over and quickly criticize his choice of automobile.

It’s clear from the clip, “First Date” isn’t your average Sundance feature. This isn’t a hard-hitting drama nor is it a typical rom-com. This film is something really unique and a bit zany. It stars Tyson Brown and Shelby Duclos. The film comes from directors Darren Knapp and Manuel Crosby.

Speaking about the unique film, the directors said, “With this film, we hope audiences walk away having experienced a fun, entertaining ride that gives them an escape from the harshness of the world right now. We’re excited to hear what else audiences decide to bring away from it for themselves. It’s kind of a fantastical take on real life, so I think the meanings within will appear differently to different viewers. On a very basic level, a few things that we thought while writing include: Love those around you while you can, whenever you can. And be careful when buying sketchy used cars.”
