Update: A reader has tipped us off to a second, minute-and-a-half clip from the film (without any red carpet business, thankfully), which this time focuses on Bradley Cooper's cop, along with another character played by the great Bruce Greenwood. Watch it below, courtesy of Hitfix.
We've not actually asked him, but we suspect strongly that the favorite film of the last few days of Kevin Jagernauth, our man on the ground at the Toronto International Film Festival, is "The Place Beyond The Pines," director Derek Cianfrance's follow-up to the acclaimed "Blue Valentine," which reunites him with star Ryan Gosling, as well as bringing in Bradley Cooper, Eva Mendes, Ray Liotta, Dane DeHann and more, for an epic, decades-spanning crime saga.
Reaction's been fairly divisive up in Toronto, but Kevin certainly loved it, and Focus Features seem to agree, picking the film up yesterday for a 2013 release. Fortunately, you won't have to wait quite so long to see something from it, as a YouTube clip from Red Carpet News has unveiled the first footage of the film. As the name might suggests, it's tied to interviews with Cianfrance and Mendes at last night's premiere, so there's some talking over the very brief scenes, but it's a good look at the film in motion, with the clips focusing on Gosling and his bank robbing partner Ben Mendelsohn ("Animal Kingdom," "The Dark Knight Rises"), a duo that the character amusingly compares to Hall & Oates.
Anyway, while it's hardly fair to judge a film on something like this, it all looks very promising, particularly paired with our review. Hopefully more footage will arrive between now and Focus' release of "A Place Beyond The Pines" sometime in 2013.
