Greta Gerwig and Joel Kinnaman — two actors who have been working mostly in indie/foreign fare to date — are making big strides toward more mainstream recognition. The former already did the WB comedy "Arthur" last year with Russell Brand, and later this year, she'll feature in Woody Allen's "Nero Fiddled" and is currently lensing the HBO series "The Corrections" with Noah Baumbach. As for the latter, he's on the AMC series "The Killing," featured in the climactic showdown in "Safe House" and was just named MGM's "RoboCop." But this summer, they'll both appear in the Fox Searchlight romantic drama/comedy "Lola Versus."
A couple new images have cropped up, including one below from the print issue of EW, and the film looks like a particularly sunny film, with New York City featuring prominently as the setting. Directed by Daryl Wein ("Breaking Upwards") and written by Wein and Zoe Lister-Jones, the story follows Lola (Gerwig) who gets dumped by her fiancé (Kinnaman) mere weeks before their wedding. With the help of her close friends Henry (Linklater) and Alice (Lister-Jones), Lola embarks on a series of unexpected encounters in an attempt to find her place in the world as a single woman approaching 30.
The film will premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in April and hit theaters on June 8th.
