First Look: Bleecker Street To Release Zellner Brothers’ Mysterious ‘Sasquatch Sunset’ Film Starring Jesse Eisenberg & Riley Keough In 2024

Welp, it looks like we need to update our Most Anticipated 2024 List. And maybe this is a big tease for tomorrow’s Sundance 2024 line-up? Because, today, Bleecker Street Studios announced a film we weren’t sure was shot or ready, but it surely is. Titled “Sasquatch Sunset,” it is the new film from directing duo David and Nathan Zellner, known for helming “Kumiko, The Treasure Hunter,” “Damsel,” and most recently, episodes of Showtime’s excellent series “The Curse” from Nathan Fielder, Emma Stone, and Benny Safdie.

What’s more, the film will star Riley Keough (Daisy Jones & The Six,” the upcoming series “Under the Bridge,” “Zola”), Jesse Eisenberg (“The Art of Self-Defense,” “The Social Network,” “Fleishman Is in Trouble”), Nathan Zellner, and Christophe Zajac-Denek (“Twin Peaks: The Return”). The film is currently in post-production. Bleecker Street came onto the film for the U.S. in 2022, shortly before its apparently under-the-radar shoot in Northern California. So yes, it’s been under wraps and a bit of a secret.

Written by David Zellner, “Sasquatch Sunset” is described as “A year in the life of a singular family,” with additional plot details currently being kept under wraps for now (though again, maybe it will be included in the Sundance announcement tomorrow?)

“Sasquatch Sunset” is a Square Peg, ZBI, and The Space Program production and produced by Lars Knudsen, Tyler Campellone, Nathan Zellner, David Zellner, George Rush, Jesse Eisenberg, and David Harari, with acclaimed director Ari Aster serving as an executive producer alongside Riley Keough and Gina Gammell under their Felix Culpa Banner. Bleecker Street will release the film theatrically in 2024.

Filmmaking brothers David and Nathan Zellner have made a name for themselves with their unique, boundary-pushing storytelling and cinematic style. Their collaborations are marked by dark humor and unconventional themes and characters. Their short film “Sasquatch Birth Journal 2” (hmmm, connection, it seems?) premiered at Sundance in 2011 and was nominated for the Sundance Short Filmmaking Award. Their most recent project was directing the key and final episodes of the aforementioned “The Curse” series, one of our favorites of 2023.

It’s now spiritually added to our Most Anticipated 2024 List, and if it’s at Sundance 2024, it’ll indeed be featured at the top of that list, too. A first look at the film below.
