‘Hurry Up Tomorrow’ First Look: Trey Edward Shults’ New Thriller With The Weeknd, Jenna Ortega & Barry Keoghan Hits In May

Last night at the 67th Annual Grammys Awards ceremony, The Weeknd surprised viewers with a live performance after boycotting the show alongside a recent album drop. However, the popular Canadian musician isn’t just releasing new music or performing on stages, as he has a new feature film heading exclusively to theaters on May 16 with “Hurry Up Tomorrow.”

Thanks to Lionsgate, you can check out some first-look stills (see below) from the upcoming psychological thriller, which stars Abel Tesfaye (best known as The Weeknd), Jenna Ortega (“Wednesday”), and Barry Keoghan (“The Banshees of Inisherin”). These images certainly highlight the film’s visuals, and we can’t wait to check out a trailer to see how much they lean into a feast for our eyes and the assumed darker tone.

The new movie focuses on a musician (Tesfaye) plagued by insomnia who is pulled into an odyssey with a stranger who begins to unravel the very core of his existence. “Hurry Up Tomorrow” was directed by Trey Edward Shults (“Waves,” “It Comes At Night”), and the script was penned by Tesfaye, Shults, and Reza Fahim.

This isn’t the first entry into acting for Tesfaye, as he played himself in “Uncut Gems,” briefly cameoed in “The Simpsons,” and co-starred with Lily Depp-Rose (“Nosferatu“) in the controversial HBO series “The Idol,” which was co-created by Sam Levinson (“Euphoria“). Tesfaye and Fahim had previously worked together as creatives with Levinson on the aforementioned series.

“Hurry Up Tomorrow” has yet to be rated by The Motion Picture Association, but given it’s a thriller, we have to assume it’ll land an R-rating for mature content. Stay tuned for some footage, as that’ll be the next thing to come from Lionsgate’s marketing team.
