New Line Cinema is returning to its roots with a new “Final Destination” installment after the horror property has been left dormant since 2011. Taking cues from the slasher genre, the main premise of the franchise is that a group of youngsters cheat death, and one by one they get picked off in increasingly inventive/grotesque ways by an invisible killer, Death itself. A fresh teaser trailer for “Final Destination Bloodlines” dropped today focusing on Death’s obsession with killing off those on his list in some serious elaborate ways.
“Final Destination Bloodlines” is the sixth film and the hope is that the new release could help reignite interest as cost-effective horror films have done surprisingly well with audiences. The prequel focusing on Death’s grim sense of justice features actors such as Kaitlyn Santa Juana, Teo Briones, Richard Harmon, Owen Patrick Joyner, Rya Kihlstedt, Anna Lore, Brec Bassinger, and the late Tony Todd (“Candy Man”), who had appeared as William Bludworth in four out of the five previous films.

An official synopsis for “Final Destination Bloodlines” reads as follows:
“Plagued by a violent recurring nightmare, college student Stefanie heads home to track down the one person who might be able to break the cycle and save her family from the grisly demise that inevitably awaits them all.”
An interesting creative involved with the film is Guy Busick, who co-wrote the script alongside Lori Evans Taylor and has notably worked with the creative team known as Radio Silence. He previously worked with directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett on “Ready Or Not,” “Scream,” “Scream IV,” and the upcoming “Ready Or Not 2.” Busick is involved with “Scream 7” which has Kevin Williamson (original “Scream” screenwriter) handling directing duties. So, there is certainly some strong horror pedigree working on the project that has Adam Stein and Zach Lipovsky co-directing the pic.
Another key creative attached to “Bloodlines” is Jon Watts (“Wolfs”) as he has a story-by and producing credit. Watts is likely best known for helming the last three “Spider-Man” movies for Marvel/Sony with the last installment alone earning nearly $2 billion at the global box office.
Warners, New Line’s parent company, will be releasing “Final Destination Bloodlines” on May 16 and we should expect a familiar level of creative gore the franchise is known for as highlighted in the new teaser footage.
