First Look: Robert Downey Jr. In ‘Iron Man 2’

Here is your first look at Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man in Jon Favreau’s “Iron Man 2,” courtesy of USA Today.

The shot features Downey Jr. in his garage/basement most likely conjuring up some sort of technological advancement with his A.I. personal assistant, Jarvis, voiced by Paul Bettany. Four of Iron Man’s suits can also be seen in the background with the Mark I to Mark IV positioned from left to right.

Speaking on the film’s direction, Favreau revealed: “How many superheroes are open about their true identities? We wanted to play with that idea. But it obviously has consequences – in his relationships, on the team. There are a lot of areas we can explore.’ He further admitted to feeling a little pressure on the sequel to the 2008 film which has grossed over $580 million worldwide: “I really enjoyed when we were a dark horse and no one knew much about us. … I hope we can find that place again.” Something tells us that ship has sailed, Jon.

In other IM2 news, John Slattery of “Mad Men” fame has been added to cast in an unknown role. Director Favreau unveiled the piece of news via his twitter (which is constantly updated with production tidbits) simply writing: “Shooting a scene with John Slattery.”

“Iron Man 2” is due out May 7th 2010.
