First Trailer For 'Polaroid' Takes A Picture Of Horror

Poor “Tulip Fever.” The Weinstein Company has been continually pushing back the period drama starring Alicia Vikander, which was initially slated to open last summer, was bumped to this February, and then punted again to August. Now, it looks like it’s going to be moved again as the studio has lined up another picture to open on that exact same summer release date.

I never heard of “Polaroid” either, but that’s the film that Harvey Weinstein believes will make more bank than “Tulip Fever,” and he’s probably not wrong. It looks like the kind of cheapie horror that generally has a couple of decent weekends and makes a small profit, before disappearing from cinemas and from your memory altogether. Directed by Norwegian helmer Lars Klevberg, the movie flips the script on the “technology brings evil” horror subgenre, by introducing a Polaroid camera into the mix. Here’s the official synopsis:

From the producers of the THE RING and THE GRUDGE and based on the award-winning short by Lars Klevberg, comes the next iconic and bold new vision in horror: POLAROID. High school loner Bird Fitcher has no idea what dark secrets are tied to the Polaroid vintage camera she stumbles upon, but it doesn’t take long to discover that those who have their picture taken meet a tragic end.

Starring Kathryn Prescott, Mitch Pileggi, Grace Zabriskie, Tyler Young, Keenan Tracey, Samantha Logan, Priscilla Quintana, Madelaine Petsch, and Javier Botet, “Polaroid” opens on August 25th.
