Andrea Arnold doesn’t take the same path twice. She broke out with the thriller “Red Road,” made massive waves with the coming-of-age tale “Fish Tank” and then went gritty and grimy with a unique take on “Wuthering Heights.” So for her next trick, Arnold is taking on a film that sounds like it’ll attract her biggest audience yet.
Screen Daily reveals that the filmmaker is set to shoot her first film in the U.S., titled appropriately enough, “American Honey.” Written by Arnold as well, who has been spending some time in the U.S. doing research, the story will follow a teenage girl who joins the traveling sales crew for a magazine, and winds up partying, falling in love and breaking the law. Ah, youth! It definitely sounds like the mainstream thing Arnold has ever done, but we’d wager that in her hands it’ll have a lot more going on beneath the surface.
Production on the film will begin this summer and we can’t wait to see who’s going to be cast in the lead.
