Over the years since Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast in 2005, we’ve seen quite a few films and TV projects dedicated to telling that story. However, maybe none of which will be as harrowing as the upcoming Apple TV+ series, “Five Days at Memorial.”

As seen in the teaser for “Five Days at Memorial,” the series tells the story of the, well, five days after Katrina hit the coast, but the action is completely contained to the Memorial Hospital where doctors and nurses tried their best to save people’s lives with limited resources. Or did they? You see, the aftermath shows that dozens of bodies were found at the hospital, with some asking whether or not the staff at Memorial actually did try to save lives?
As with most projects coming to Apple TV+, the cast for the limited series is stacked and includes Vera Farmiga, Cherry Jones, Robert Pine, Cornelius Smith Jr., Julie Ann Emery, and Adepero Oduye. ‘Five Days’ comes from the minds of writers-producers Carlton Cuse and John Ridley. And in fact, both of those men direct episodes of the series alongside filmmaker Wendey Stanzler (“For All Mankind,” “Dispatches From Elsewhere”).
“Five Days at Memorial” debuts on Apple TV+ on August 12. You can watch the teaser below.
Here’s the synopsis:
Based on actual events from Hurricane Katrina, Five Days at Memorial tells the story of the exhausted caregivers at a New Orleans hospital who were forced to make heart-wrenching decisions amidst the storm’s aftermath.
