Movies based on video game properties are all the rage right now. Last year, we saw “Uncharted” score for Sony, thanks to Tom Holland’s popularity. Of course, you have the two ‘Sonic’ films which have been massive successes. And then, this year, we’ve already seen “Super Mario Bros.” go well over $1 billion worldwide. But Blumhouse’s first video game adaptation is something very different, as it takes on a horror property, “Five Nights at Freddy’s,” and seems to leave the kiddos behind.
As seen in the trailer for “Five Nights at Freddy’s,” the film is inspired by the video game franchise of the same name. And to be fair, the video game franchise is absolutely huge, appealing to tweens and teens. But the film, which tells the story of a security guard and his daughter fighting against possessed, murderous animatronic characters at a Chuck E. Cheese-esque restaurant, is leaning heavily into the horror aspect of the story, which could alienate the younger viewers. That said, it’s coming to Peacock day-and-date, so those little ones could sneak onto the streaming service to watch for themselves.
The film stars Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Lail, Piper Rubio, Kat Conner Sterling, Mary Stuart Masterson, and Matthew Lillard. ‘Freddy’s’ is directed by none other than Emma Tammi, who is probably best known for her breakout indie horror, “The Wind.”
“Five Nights at Freddy’s” debuts in theaters and on Peacock on October 27. You can watch the trailer below.
Here’s the synopsis:
The film follows a troubled security guard as he begins working at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. While spending his first night on the job, he realizes the night shift at Freddy’s won’t be so easy to make it through.
