Brace yourselves, horror fans: this upcoming project may be too juicy for its own good. THR reports that “Mandy” director Panos Cosmatos has his next film lined up, a vampire thriller set in 1980s LA starring Kristen Stewart and Oscar Isaac. Still not excited? How about “Se7en” and “The Killer” scribe Andrew Kevin Walker penning the script? That’s enough to send any gorehound’s head spinning. Also, check its amazing title: “Flesh Of The Gods.” And on top of all that, Adam McKay heads the production team.
Producers say Cosmato’s latest will star Isaac and Stewart as a married couple in LA who cross paths with a seductive woman and her hard-partying cabal who initiates them into a glamorous, hedonistic, and violent world. No word yet on who will play the seductress of Issac and Stewart’s Raoul and Isaac, but sign us up. This sounds miles ahead of other recent “Vampires in LA” fare like “Night Teeth” and “Day Shift.”
McKay produces “Flesh Of The Gods” with Betsy Koch through their Hyperobject Industries banner. Isaac also produces with Gena Konstantinakos through Made Gene Media. “Flesh Of The Gods” will be at the Cannes market too, with CAA and WME handling domestic rights and XYZ Films for international sale. The plan is to start shooting the film in LA later this year.
“Flesh Of The Gods” will be Cosmatos’ first film since 2018’s action horror “Mandy.” It’s the third collaboration between Cosmatos and XYZ after “Mandy” and 2010’s “Beyond The Black Rainbow.” Cosmatos also has another upcoming project at A24: “Nekrokosm,” a “phantasmagorical fantasy nightmare” set in a faraway galaxy about two lovers ripped apart by malevolent forces.
“Like Los Angeles itself, “Flesh of the Gods” inhabits the liminal realm between fantasy and nightmare,” Cosmatos said in a press statement. “Both propulsive and hypnotic, “Flesh” will take you on a hot rod joy ride deep into the glittering heart of hell.”
“Flesh Of The Gods” sounds like another great genre project for Stewart, who’s no stranger to vampires after the “Twilight” series. But Stewart’s YA days are well behind her, as indicated again by her stellar role in Rose Glass‘ recent crime thriller “Love Lies Bleeding.” But does Stewart joining Cosmatos’ latest mean she’s found funding for her feature directorial debut? The actress has threatened to stop working if she doesn’t find anyone to back “The Chronology Of Water.”
As for Isaac, “Flesh Of The Gods” will be the actor’s first onscreen role since the Marvel Disney+ series “Moon Knight” back in 2022. That’s hard to believe, but what a film to return with.
If “Flesh Of The Gods” starts shooting later this year, expect it out in theaters in time for Halloween 2025. And given everyone involved in this project, expect this vampire thriller to be the most anticipated horror movie next year.
