During a virtual San Diego Comic-Con panel, Apple released the first teaser for season 2 of its alternate-history sci-fi drama “For All Mankind,” and it brings gunfights to the Moon.
“For All Mankind” is developed by “Outlander” showrunner Ronald D. Moore and it explores an alternate timeline where the Soviet Union got to the Moon earlier than the United States, and the space race never ended. The first season premiered on Apple TV+ last November and brought plenty of Cold War tensions, but now they’re bringing the big guns.
The first season spanned a decade, and saw huge strides being made that sets the show’s timeline apart from our own. There is a full lunar base, and even modifications to the Equal Rights Amendment. For season 2, Moore teased a time jump and a soundtrack full of 1980s classics. Additionally, the teaser sees lunar base astronauts arming themselves like they’re the actual space force.
The teaser also blends the timelines a bit, as even though we see several shots of the lunar base, the whole thing is narrated by snippets of Ronald Reagan’s speeches including his address after the shooting down of Korean Air Lines Flight 007.
Like pretty much every other TV and film project, there are concerns over how “For All Mankind” was affected by the ongoing pandemic. Thankfully, Moore said he’d already shot 8 of the 10 episodes of the season before production was shut down, and the writing team is already thinking of a third season.
