'For Your Own Good': Robert Downey, Jr. & Greg Berlanti Teaming Up To Produce A New HBO Max Series

Since the end of his run as Tony Stark, aka Iron Man, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Robert Downey, Jr. has really taken a step back from acting and focused primarily on his producing work with Team Downey. This has led to series such as “Sweet Tooth” and “Perry Mason,” both of which are really great. And it appears his next production effort, a TV adaptation of “For Your Own Good,” finds Team Downey working with one of the most prolific TV producers in the game today, Greg Berlanti.

According to THR, Robert Downey Jr.’s production company, Team Downey, which he co-runs with his wife, Susan Downey, will team with Greg Berlanti’s Berlanti Productions for a TV adaptation of the upcoming novel, “For Your Own Good,” written by Samantha Downing. The novel tells the story of the deadly and nefarious goings-on at New England’s prestigious Belmont Academy. With Ivy League admissions letters getting sent out, a memorial statue of a deceased headmaster, the Teacher of the Year award campaigning, and a string of dead bodies, there’s quite a bit of drama at the academy.

While a writer for the potential series has yet to be named, author Samantha Downing is sticking around as a consulting producer. “For Your Own Good” marks the second novel of hers to recently get an adaptation announcement. Previously, it was reported that Amazon and Nicole Kidman’s Blossom Films are adapting her previous novel, “My Lovely Wife,” into a feature.

While we already covered some of the recent projects from Team Downey, Berlanti is probably best known for his work as the producer on the entire Arrowverse superhero franchise on CW. In addition, his company also produces “Riverdale” and the Netflix hit, “You,” as well as a number of other projects either in development or currently airing.

No release date has been announced for the new series, “For Your Own Good.” The series will eventually end up (if it moves forward, that is) at HBO Max.
