If you were tasked with listing the most popular actors in the world right now, you’d have to include Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Robert Downey, Jr, Chris Hemsworth, and Kevin Hart, among others. The good news is most of those guys are actually on the 2018 Forbes list of the highest paid actors. However, none of them can hold a candle to 2018’s chart-topper George Clooney.
Now, you may be confused by this revelation. That’s probably because Clooney hasn’t starred in a film since 2016’s “Money Monster” and all he turned in during the last calendar year is the disappointing “Suburbicon,” which he directed. So, how did he pull in over $239 million? One word — tequila.
That’s right, Clooney made almost all of his quarter-billion dollars by selling his tequila company, Casamigos, for approximately $1 billion last year. And as we know, Forbes counts not just money pulled in from entertainment earnings, but also from what they call “extracurriculars.”
Not to be outdone, #2 on the list is the obvious Dwayne Johnson. The highest paid actor in the world seems to have a new blockbuster every few months, and all that contributed to his $124 million earnings. And as you might expect by the fact that “Avengers: Infinity War” pulled in over $2 billion, three of the top 10 actors come from that franchise, including RDJ, Hemsworth, and Chris Evans.
The rest of the list is comprised of some familiar faces like Will Smith and Adam Sandler, but there are a few surprises for those of us not super versed in Bollywood films, as Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar both land in the top 10.

Oh, and for those that care, Scarlett Johansson, 2018’s highest-paid actress, would have tied for #7. However, no other actress in the world would have cracked the top 10.
