In an interview with MTVNews.com, “The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor” director Rob Cohen, let it be known that he thinks the series has the legs for a forth movie, and possibly more and more and more.
Cohen thinks (mild spoiler) now that Rick (Brendan Fraser’s character) is immortal, the series has the potential to go one forever, even with the ‘aww-shucks,’ dumbass-next door protagonist as the Mummy. Dear God.”Because [Fraser] was treated by the pool of eternal life, Rick is now immortal. I’d love to explore how that plays out for him.” We do have to hand it to them, just when we thought this thing was dead, Bam!, they come at us with an extremely economically convenient twist.
If the fourth movie did go forward, Cohen and crew would go the way of “Indy 4” and head down to South America to shoot because, “The have a lot of mummies.” Naturally. So many mummies, so few studios stupid enough to keep churning these things out. We guess they make a dollar and lord knows middle America needs something to do in the summer.
