Fox Searchlight has picked up “Crazy Heart,” Scott Cooper’s directorial debut which follows the story of an aging country singer (Jeff Bridges) who finds inspiration through his relationship with a reporter (Maggie Gyllenhaal) while dealing with the rise of his protege (Colin Farrell) and his own mentor (Robert Duvall).
We wrote about this one in one of our potentially anticipated 2009 pieces, but mostly because the cast is decent and T. Bone Burnett, is writing original music for the film, while Jeff Bridges (playing the musician) will be performing original songs. Hopefully it’s more “Coal Miner’s Daughter,” and “Tender Mercies” than it is new-country.
With that in mind, here’s uhhh, a clip of Bridges and Farrell performing (slash lip-synching?) at a Toby Keith concert for the film can been seen below. Just no post 9/11 pro-American anthems, please. [Variety/ONTD]
