'Furiosa': Charlize Theron Says The 'Mad Max' Prequel Is "Amazing"

When “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” was first announced, there was a bit of controversy because filmmaker George Miller decided to recast the lead role instead of working some movie magic to allow for Charlize Theron to return years later. According to Miller, he didn’t believe de-aging techniques would fully work for what he wanted, and instead, he brought in Anya Taylor-Joy. There were some interviews where it seemed like Theron was a bit hurt by that. However, that hasn’t stopped Theron from watching ‘Furiosa’ and offering her take.

Speaking to THR at an event for her charity, Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project, Charlize Theron was asked about what she thought of ‘Furiosa.’ The actor has seen the film and was apparently pretty pleased with how it turned out.

“It’s amazing, it’s a beautiful film,” said Theron.

Unfortunately, she has yet to be able to tell that to Anya Taylor-Joy. According to Theron, they’ve not had the time to actually talk about “Furiosa.”

“No, we’ve really been trying to connect,” she said. “It’s been one of those — we can actually make a comedy out of it. We keep running into each other and in places when we don’t have time to really talk to each other, so we’re constantly like, ‘Oh my god, OK, let’s get together!’ And then life takes over. But it will happen when it’s right.”

It would be interesting to be a fly on the wall for those discussions. During the press tour for ‘Furiosa,’ Taylor-Joy was open about the fact that the production was really difficult for her. Her sentiments sorta echoed what Theron has said about the process of making ‘Fury Road.’ So, you have to imagine the talk between the two actors would be more like veterans sharing their war stories.

Regardless, it looks like Theron is a fan of ‘Furiosa’ and how it turned out.
