Brit Marling & Zal Batmanglij Reunite For Whodunit Series 'Retreat'

The Netflix series “The OA” certainly had a following, and the team behind the sci-fi show is reuniting with another genre project. FX has announced via a press release circulated by outlets like Deadline has revealed that Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij are working together on a whodunnit limited series, “Retreat.”

It sort of sounds like an amplified version of murder mysteries such as “Knives Out” or likely similar to something like “Clue,” with a Gen Z spin.

Here is the show’s synopsis as mentioned by Deadline:

“Gen Z sleuth Darby Hart and eleven other guests are invited by a reclusive billionaire to participate in a retreat at a remote and dazzling location. When one of the other guests is found dead, Darby must fight to prove it was murder against a tide of competing interests and before the killer takes another life.”

Marling and Batmanglij will write and direct the series and executive produce with “Transparent“s Andrea Sperling.

“Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij have delivered a suspenseful story that updates the classic mystery genre with a bold new character for our times. We are thrilled that Brit and Zal and the rest of the creative team will bring this series to life with their unique points of view and care,” Gina Balian, Head of Original Programming at FX Productions, said in a statement.

Your murder mystery project is only as good as your cast, and the announcement confirms that Brit Marling will have a role, but we’ll have to wait a little longer to see who else will fill out the remaining roles. Still holding out hope for “The OA,” though? So is Brit Marling (see below).
