When “Game of Thrones” was announced, the cast for the young HBO series was filled with a few actors that have some recognition (Sean Bean, Peter Dinklage, Lena Headey), but by and large, the main cast featured young actors that had little to no experience. Eventually, those folks, such as Kit Harrington, Maisie Williams, Sophie Turner, and Emilia Clarke (to name several), became household names and A-listers in their own right. And it appears HBO is attempting to do that same formula again with the upcoming ‘Thrones’ spin-off.
Deadline has reported that actors Marquis Rodriguez (“When They See Us”), John Simm (“Strangers”), Richard McCabe (“Philip K. Dick’’s Electric Dreams”), John Heffernan (“Dracula”), and Dixie Egerickx (“The Secret Garden”) have all joined the cast of the still-untitled ‘Thrones’ spin-off series as regulars. The new spin-off, which is rumored to be titled “The Long Night,” takes place thousands of years before the current series and tells the story of the fall of the Golden Age of Heroes and the true origins of the White Walkers.
These actors join the previously announced cast that includes Naomi Watts, Josh Whitehouse, Naomi Ackie, Denise Gough, Jamie Campbell Bower, Sheila Atim, Ivanno Jeremiah, Georgie Henley, Alex Sharp, Toby Regbo, and Miranda Richardson.
Those wondering if the spin-off would carry the same sort of ensemble that made “Game of Thrones” so famous have their answer. It appears that much of the same DNA, as far as casting choices and the sheer number of announced actors, of the original series is going to be present in the untitled spin-off.

However, there will be major changes behind-the-scenes. “Game of Thrones” series creators D.B. Weiss and David Benioff have no involvement in this new iteration of the franchise. Instead, the spin-off is created by George R.R. Martin and Jane Goldman and is written by the latter.
No word on when the series might debut, but it’s assumed to show up sometime in 2020.
