Got a Tip?

‘Game Of Thrones’ Scripts From Previous Seasons Reveal Potential Secrets & Spoilers For The Final Episodes

There are two fandoms that seem to be the most furious in the worlds of Film and TV. On the big screen side of things, there’s the Marvel Cinematic Universe (and superhero films, in general) fandom that analyzes every interview, marketing material, toy design, novelization, and trashcan (I assume they’re at Kevin Feige’s house every night) for any sort of info that can point out the direction of the latest, greats superhero epic.

And then on the TV side, you have “Game of Thrones.” Considering the novels have been around for decades, the massive HBO series has a loyal, and investigative, fanbase that will analyze the word choices in books and glances in scenes for any clues. So, when Vanity Fair decided to go to the Writers Guild of America Library to pour over pages of scripts, the show “bible,” and the pitch documents, you better believe that if there was any information to be gleaned, the outlet had you covered.

To no one’s surprise, there is gold in them there hills!

You see, hidden in the margins (so to speak) in the scripts and other documents are descriptions of emotions and interactions that answer some of ‘Thrones’ fans’ most asked questions, as well as pointing to hints at future developments.

Needless to say — **Spoiler Warning for “Game of Thrones” Season 8…well, potentially, at least. Regardless, you’ve been warned.**

Headlining the 18 (yes, 18!) “secrets” hidden in the seven seasons of scripts is one of the answers that many people have been looking for since the end of Season 7. Is Cersei Lannister actually pregnant or is this yet another wretched ploy? According to the report, she is definitely expecting.

In the script, the scene between Cersei and Jamie, where she tells him the truth, has a little extra in the description:

“…the script reads: ‘She nods, it’s true. [. . .] Her happiness is contagious. They get another chance at family. This time with no one standing in their way.’”

Another major question that has been plaguing fans for years is the true feelings felt between Tyrion and Daenerys. You see, though it’s definitely feeling a bit one-sided, fans have always read into certain facial expressions and lines that Tyrion has said to Dany as perhaps an admission that he holds romantic feelings for her. And the scripts definitely illuminate that a bit more, proving that even if it’s not true, romantic love, there’s definitely a huge attraction that Tyrion feels for Dany, as seen in the script for Season 6’s “The Winds of Winter”:

“He studies her face. [. . .] Dany is staring into the distance so Tyrion is able to watch her from up close. Goddamn but she is beautiful. [. . .] He watches her for a beat too long and turns away. Lost in her own thoughts, she doesn’t notice that he’s flustered.”

Though this is the last one we’ll cover (for the entire, long list of secrets, head to Vanity Fair), we finally have an answer to Dany’s dream from Season 2, where she is at King’s Landing and approaching the throne. What looked like snow (or perhaps ash?) fell from the hole in the roof, leading many to wonder what the vision says about the future. Do the dragons burn it down (thus the ash)? Or perhaps it’s the winter that has finally come to King’s Landing (thus the rare snow)?

The script for the Season 2 episode says in no uncertain terms that it is, in fact, snow falling from the sky, and not ash. Meaning, yes, winter truly arrived at the Iron Throne.

We’ll find out (hopefully) all these answers, for real, when “Game of Thrones” Season 8 hits HBO in April 2019.
