Got a Tip?

Insanely Talented Dancers & Gaspar Noe’s Acrobatic Camerawork Elevate ‘Climax’ [AYT Podcast]

On this episode of Adjust Your Tracking, Joe and I dig into Gaspar Noe‘s latest, “Climax,” so far one of the most exciting big screen experiences of 2019, with sequences of dance choreography so spellbinding, all set to a nonstop beat of killer ’90s dance tracks, that it’s almost a shame when the film, in classic Noe fashion, descends in to hell. Nonetheless, this just may be the perfect gateway film for anyone curious about this provocative filmmaker. In short, AYT recommends you see it in a cinema if you want a memorable experience.

“Climax” is about a group of dancers who, after a long night of practice, decide to kick back and party as they finish up their routine (an all-time great dance sequence that had my jaw on the floor). Someone spikes the sangria, though, and it becomes a trip gone very, very bad kinda movie. It’s thrilling, depressing, sometimes funny, and brazenly cinematic in equal measures. There’s nothing else like it at the movies right now. And so, we discuss!
