In an evening which was likely both proud and painful for HBO, their hit series “Game Of Thrones” — which officially will end after season eight — won 12 Emmys, and set the record for most wins ever for a single show, with 38. However, there has long been discussion about the world of Westeros being ripe for more adventures. This summer, HBO said the door wasn’t closed on a spinoff, prequels have also been considered, and as far back as 2014, author George R. R. Martin was proposing a possible movie. And now he’s teasing that he’s got plenty of stuff should HBO want to continue their fantasy series going in a different direction.
“I do have thousands of pages of fake history of everything that led up to ‘Game of Thrones,’ so there’s a lot of material there and I’m writing more,” Martin said at the Emmys.
That sounds like prequel material to me, but Martin cautions, “that’s all speculation” for now, and also reminds everyone ‘Thrones’ is still here for two more seasons, and that he’s also got some books to finish. But hey, if and when HBO decides to keep finding new ways to tell stories in the world of “Game Of Thrones,” they’ll have plenty of work already done to get them started. And it’s probably safe to say that fans will have problem going along to see what further adventures await. [Vulture]
