Get Truly Outrageous With New Photos Of ‘Jem & The Holograms’

Jem & The HologramsTo recap, if you’ve forgotten or it wasn’t your generation: In the 1980s, the joint effort of Hasbro, Marvel Productions and Sunbow Productions, created the “G.I. Joe” and “Transformers” cartoon series that launched some pretty huge film franchises as well. Based on that success, that same trio created a cartoon for girls: “Jem & The Holograms,” an animated TV series about an all-girl rock band, the mysterious lead singer and their various adventures. So, sure enough, it’s getting its own film, though perhaps slightly different from the original after-school cartoon.

"It’s actually about a group of young people who are going to be inundated with this idea of fame and fortune and products and stuff, and within all that, how do you stay true to who you really are?" director Jon M. Chu (“Step Up” series,G.I. Joe: Retaliation”), told USA Today. "That’s the real soul of the movie." Here’s the official synopsis:

As a small-town girl catapults from underground video sensation to global superstar, she and her three sisters begin a one-in-a-million journey of discovering that some talents are too special to keep hidden. In Universal Pictures’ JEM AND THE HOLOGRAMS, four aspiring musicians will take the world by storm when they see that the key to creating your own destiny lies in finding your own voice.

The musical adventure stars Aubrey Peeples, Stefanie Scott, Aurora Perrineau, Hayley Kiyoko, Ryan Guzman, Molly Ringwald and Juliette Lewis. “Jem & The Holograms” arrives on October 23rd. Check out the new photos below.
