'Ghostbusters' Reboot-Quel Teaser: Jason Reitman's Just-Announced Film Already Has A First Look

It feels like it was only yesterday that we found out that Jason Reitman was going to helm a brand-new “Ghostbusters” reboot-quel that will share the same universe as his father Ivan’s classic film and continue the story that has been left dormant for decades. Oh wait, it was just yesterday. But somehow, we actually already have the first teaser for the film.

EW has the exclusive first look at the upcoming big-budget reboot for “Ghostbusters” that’s scheduled to hit theaters in 2020. 24 hours ago we didn’t know it even existed, but yet, here we are with a little teaser that proves that the film is not just talk and will actually see the light of day. The teaser doesn’t give much in the way of plot. In fact, it gives nothing in the way of plot. But it does give fans a quick glimpse at the classic vehicle that you all know and love.

On a more macro level, this teaser points to the fact that not only is this film coming, but Reitman and Co. are way ahead of where we thought they were in the developmental process. Presumably, a script has already been written and approved and, as with many films of this magnitude, production will most likely begin by this summer.

This also means that casting is probably either completed or underway as we speak, meaning that we’ll probably see who’s going to follow in Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, and Ernie Hudson’s footsteps. All we really care about is that Rick Moranis comes back for this film, as he’s so dearly missed.

The other thing to take into consideration is that a new “Ghostbusters” film is coming and is clearly geared towards the same people that made Paul Feig’s film so controversial. Will those fanboys put down their spears and welcome Jason Reitman’s forthcoming film? Or will this reboot get the same hate that the all-female film did? We’ll soon find out.

“Ghostbusters” will hit theaters in summer 2020.
