It’s a lot of what you’d expect, but that’s ok. Foreign Films nominated by the Golden Globes include Cannes-lauded fare like, “The Class” (France), “Waltz With Bashir (Israel),” “Gomorrah,” “Il Divo,” (both from Italy), “Three Monkeys” (Turkey), “Tokyo Sonata” (Japan), and other foreign stand-outs of 2008 like the notorious “Baader Meinhof Complex” (Germany), “I’ve Loved You So Long” (France), “Let The Right One In” (Sweden),
Indiewire points out: Captain Abu Raed” (Jordan),”Everlasting Moments” (Sweden/Denmark) “Last Stop 174” (Brazil), “O’Horten” (Norway), and “The Secret of the Grain“(France). Here’s the entire list.
But The Golden Globes are essentially dead to us for not nominating Lucrecia Martel’s “The Headless Woman” (Argentina) and “Reprise” (Norway), but honestly the later one was likely released and or eligible last year. Either way, the films we’ve named above are some of the best ones of the year, so get off your ass and try and see them. It’s a stronger year for Foreign Films than it is for American mainstream films (that’s aimed at you, silly Oscar watchers).
