Got a Tip?

‘Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween’ Trailer: No Jack Black Isn’t In This One

With the weather cooling and the nights getting longer, slowly but surely everyone’s thoughts are turning towards Halloween. For Sony Pictures though, the holiday is coming a little bit early with the release of “Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween.” The stand-alone sequel to 2015’s “Goosebumps” —meaning it doesn’t have Jack Black in it which may have been the only reason you watched it in the first place—Ari Sandel’s (“The DUFF,” “When We First Met”) newest film is capitalizing on its scary-for-children theme by coming out a couple weeks before Halloween.

Both movies are based on the kid’s book series of the same name by R.L. Stine released in the mid-1990s. The second best-selling book series in history (right under Harry Potter, no surprise), Stine’s works have been adapted for television, video games, and now film.

Taking on a more meta approach to the ‘Goosebumps’ world, the films give the creators an opportunity to cram in all our favorite spooky characters at once, like killer lawn gnomes, the abominable snowman, Slappy the dummy, and even the author himself (or the fictional version, at least). In the first picture, Jack Black (“School of Rock,” “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle”) took on the role of R.L. Stine, but yeah, he bailed on this one it seems.

Instead, the line-up will include Jeremy Ray Taylor, the young star from 2017’s adaption of “It”; after that level of horror, he should be able to handle Goosebumps just fine. Along with Taylor will be Madison Iseman, Caleel Harris, Avery Lee Jones, Wendi McLendon-Covey, and Chris Parnell.

‘Goosebumps 2’ is set to be released October 12, 2018. Here is the synopsis:

In the small town of Wardenclyffe on Halloween Night, two boys named Sonny and Sam find a manuscript in an abandoned house that was previously owned by R. L. Stine called “Haunted Halloween.” When they open it, they release Slappy who plans to create the Halloween Apocalypse with the help of his Halloween monster allies. Now, Sonny and Sam, alongside Sonny’s sister, Sarah, must work to thwart Slappy’s plot before all is lost.
