As summer is now over, the season of giving, family, and love is around the corner. And okay, that might sound cliche and a bit too optimistic, but maybe that’s why we all need a creepy green creature to help us with the journey of discovering the true meaning of Christmas. Courtesy of Illumination Entertainment, “The Grinch” is coming back to the screen, with the help of rapper Tyler the Creator, ready to start hell again with the Whovillers.
Last time, this classic Dr. Seuss story was a live-action adaptation with Jim Carrey as the sinister and pessimistic creature. This time, the story will be animated, and Academy Award nominee, Benedict Cumberbatch (“Doctor Strange,” “Sherlock Holmes”) will be voicing the infamous Grinch. The film has released three trailers so far, only to have revealed Cumberbatch as part of the cast. They seem to have been really protecting and hyping up the cast list, making us wonder who’ll play the heart and soul of the story–Cindy-Lou Who.
Having built quite the reputation for themselves over the years, Illumination has brought the highly successful, minion-run “Despicable Me.” And who knows, with ‘Grinch,’ they may have just created another successful animation film for the holidays. Cumberbatch, having embodied prominent story and comic characters on his resume, will for sure deliver magic, humor, and quirkiness to this classic tale.
The film is directed by Scott Mosier and Yarrow Cheney, who will both be making their directorial feature debuts. Mosier worked as a production designer for the ‘Despicable’ movies along with “The Lorax” and Cheney has done a lot of producing for indie films such as “Clerks.” It’s written by Michael LeSieur, who penned “Keeping Up with the Joneses” and produced by former ‘Despicable’ and “Minions” producers, Chris Meledandri and Janet Healy.
The classic Christmas tale is set to hit theaters November 9. Here’s the trailer:
