For nearly the entirety of Marvel comic book movie history, there has been talk of Adam Warlock joining the MCU. A cosmic, mystical character like De. Strange, but even more powerful, Warlock was considered for ‘Guardians Vol 2’ and the ‘Infinity War Avengers Saga. The character was instrumental in the Infinity Saga in the comics, and the Russo Brothers admitted they considered putting him in the movie at one point. But now, the character is finally joining the MCU. Deadline reports that 28-year-old Will Poulter (“Midsommar,” “Detroit”) has bagged the role in Marvel’s upcoming “Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3,” due summer 2023.

‘Guardians of The Galaxy 3’ director James Gunn confirmed the news on various social media channels. Warlock was a pivotal character in the Infinity War comics story, helping to defeat Thanos and characters like the Silver Surfer that Marvel didn’t own at the time. Details of the ‘Guardians 3’ movie are being kept under wraps, but filming is supposed to begin in November.
The character was briefly teased in a post-credit scene of “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,” so it’s been long-suspected he would join the ‘Guardian’s franchise eventually.
Warlock was apparently a super coveted role by all of young Hollywood. Other actors that tested for the role include “Bridgerton” star Rege-Jean Page and George MacKay, known for Sam Mendes’ “1917” epic WWII movie.
Poulter first broke out as a child actor in “Son of Rambow” and “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.” He’s seen gone to acclaim in roles in films such as “War Machine,” “The Revenant,” and a cast member in the “Maze Runner.” ‘Guardians 3’ is said to be shooting simultaneously as the “Guardians of The Galaxy” Christmas special (they will knock them out at the same time), but it’s unclear if Poulter will appear as Warlock. “Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3” is set for release on May 5, 2023.
