Phase 5 of the MCU is about to kick off with “Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania,” but not long after that comes “Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3.” While the Guardians had supporting roles in Taika Waititi‘s “Thor: Love And Thunder,” and turned up recently in “The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special,” this final edition of the franchise—at least the final installment for writer/director James Gunn—promises to be a big epic finale which will reunite the Guardians with Zoe Saldaña as Gamora, who’s been missing in action since “Avengers: Endgame.”
James Gunn’s tweets about it promise a story he “has been cooking up for years,” and in the past, he’s described it as “so big and dark.”
All the Guardians will return for ‘Vol 3,’ with Chris Pratt leading the charge as Peter Quill/Star-Lord, Saldaña as the aforementioned Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, Vin Diesel as Groot, Bradley Cooper as Rocket, Karen Gillan is also on board as Nebula, and Pom Klementieff returns as Mantis. But there’s more: Sean Gunn returns as Kraglin Obfonteri, Daniela Melchior has an undisclosed role, Chukwudi Iwujistars as the High Evolutionary, Will Poulter plays the famous Marvel character Adam Warlock, and Maria Bakalova voices the role of Cosmo the Spacedog. Plus, old ‘Guardians’ supporting actors will turn up, like Elizabeth Debicki and Sylvester Stallone.
Kevin Feige is the producer and Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Nikolas Korda, Simon Hatt and Sara Smith serve as executive producers. And it promises to be a huge epic Marvel film.
Here’s the official synopsis:
In Marvel Studios “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” our beloved band of misfits are looking a bit different these days. Peter Quill, still reeling from the loss of Gamora, must rally his team around him to defend the universe along with protecting one of their own. A mission that, if not completed successfully, could quite possibly lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them.
“Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3.” lands in U.S. theaters on May 5, 2023. Watch the latest trailer which debuted during the Superbowl right now.
