Honestly, if you read The Playlist regularly, and you enjoy the films that we cover, you might not be a huge video game person that is intimately familiar with the story of “Borderlands.” And you probably scoff at the idea of yet another attempt by Hollywood to figure out how to bring a video game franchise to the big screen. But yet, when it comes to “Borderlands,” the cast is turning into an ensemble that is hard to ignore, no matter your thoughts on video games, franchises, and action films.
According to IGN, “Borderlands” continues to add quality to its cast with the addition of Haley Bennett to the film. It’s unclear what role Bennett will play, but it’s being reported that she will have a close connection to the character of Lilith, who will be played by none other than Cate Blanchett in the feature. Yes, Cate Blanchett. And Bennett joins the cast that already includes Blanchett, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Jamie Lee Curtis. That’s a pretty damn solid cast for what could be a super fun, stylish action-comedy, right?
“Borderlands” tells the story of a colorful group of characters in a sorta-post-apocalyptic alien planet that have to fight with each other to find some doo-dad or whatnot. It’s a video game movie based on “Borderlands,” so it’s likely going to have bright colors, guns, blood, and humor. That sort of thing. The film is directed by Eli Roth, based on a script by Aaron Berg and Craig Mazin.

Bennett is probably best known for her roles in films such as “The Girl on the Train,” “Thank You for Your Service,” and “The Devil All the Time.” Most recently, she was seen in the film “Hillbilly Elegy.” However, if you want her very best work, definitely check out the under-the-radar thriller, “Swallow.” She’s absolutely spectacular in that eerie, beautiful film.
“Borderlands” is expected to begin filming soon and will likely have a release sometime in 2022, at the earliest.
