Even before it was announced as part of the lineup of this year’s Venice Film Festival, there have been questions and anticipation regarding Harmony Korine’s upcoming film, “Aggro Dr1ft.” Was it really shot entirely in infrared? Is it just a stunt? How does Travis Scott figure into all of this? Well, we don’t have a ton of answers right now, but according to Korine, he’s not even sure anything like it has existed before now.
Speaking at the Locarno Film Festival (video below), Harmony Korine was asked to talk about his upcoming film, “Aggro Dr1ft.” While the filmmaker was uneasy saying much about it, he did explain that it’s something completely different from anything he’s made before. Actually, it’s different from anything anyone else has ever made before. Hell, it might not even be a “movie.”
“I’m excited,” explained Korine. “I don’t think there’s ever been anything like it, I don’t think I’ve made anything like it. I don’t know if anything like it has existed. We were trying not to make a movie, so maybe it’s not even a movie.”
Here’s the official Venice description of the film:
In the seedy domain of Miami’s criminal underbelly, a seasoned hitman embarks on the relentless pursuit of his next target. Shot entirely through thermal lens, he navigates a twisted world where violence and madness reign supreme. Tensions unravel, leading to a psychedelic journey that blurs the lines between predator and prey.
“Aggro Dr1ft” stars the aforementioned Scott alongside Joshua Tilley, Stet Blancett, and Chanya Middleton. Given this is a film directed by Korine, the man behind films such as “Spring Breakers,” “Gummo,” and “The Beach Bum,” there’s really no telling what wildness is in store.
“Aggro Dr1ft” is set to have its world premiere at this year’s Venice Film Festival. A full release has yet to be announced.
