“I Hate Daredevil So Much”: 45-Minute Talk With Ben Affleck

It took over a decade, but following the flop of 2003’s “Daredevil,” Ben Affleck mostly redeemed himself in “Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice.” Okay, the movie itself was a bit of a disaster, but the few silver linings that could be gleaned from Zack Snyder‘s picture included the actor’s portrayal of Bruce Wayne, a more wearied, angrier take than previous performances by Michael Keaton and Christian Bale (and by those unfortunate enough to star in the Joel Schumacher movies). As for why he took the role of The Dark Knight, Affleck was pretty candid in a recent Times Talk.

“Part of it was I wanted for once to get one of these movies and do it right — to do a good version. I hate ‘Daredevil’ so much,” he said.

Indeed, like everyone else, he believes the movie didn’t tap the potential of the superhero, something he admits Netflix is doing with their fan-favorite series. “The Netflix show does really cool stuff,” he added. “I feel like that was there for us to do with that character, and we never kind of got it right. I wanted to do one of those movies and sort of get it right.”

Affleck’s next big screen appearance (and directorial effort) is “Live By Night,” which lands in limited release on Christmas Day. Check out the full 45-minute talk.
