HBO Debuts Footage Of Meryl Streep From 'Big Little Lies' And A Brief Look At The Final Season Of 'Thrones'

HBO just wrapped up the network’s big miniseries “Sharp Objects” this weekend, but the premium cable service wants viewers to know that the future is looking pretty incredible. While we still have several months until we ring in the new year, HBO has decided to release a sizzle reel highlighting some of the network’s biggest 2019 offerings, with some never-before-seen previews. Yes, that includes “Game of Thrones.”

In the quick minute-and-a-half clip, we see our first good look at Meryl Streep in the upcoming second season of “Big Little Lies.” As if that cast wasn’t already stacked enough with some of the best actresses working today, the folks behind the Emmy-winning series decided to just go ahead and hire the biggest name in acting. And even though we don’t get any context to her little scene, obviously it’s Streep and anything she touches turns to gold. So, we’ll be there.

There’s also some footage from the upcoming, highly-anticipated third season of “True Detective.” After the controversial (just a nice way of saying “subpar”) second season, Nic Pizzolatto is back with Oscar winner Mahershala Ali leading the way. And judging by the new teaser trailer that was just released, Pizzolatto and Co. look to be going back to the vicious serial killer/time-hopping ways that made season one a breakout hit.

And last, but certainly not least, HBO decided to drop a bit of a bomb by releasing new footage from season 8 (the final season) of “Game of Thrones.” Sure, 95% of the footage you see from ‘GoT’ in the sizzle reel is old, recycled footage from the previous season, but there’s one new shot of our hero (and overall dreamy) Jon Snow as he embraces long lost sister (or cousin, if you wanna get technical) Sansa Stark. Sure, it’s not more than a couple seconds, but it’s the hit that ‘GoT’-junkies need to get them through the hard winter as we await the end of the George R.R. Martin epic.
