Yesterday, Damon Lindelof released a five-page letter to fans, begging them to take his upcoming “Watchmen” HBO series seriously and to understand his motivations behind making the show. It appears that the letter was just the way to brace fans for more “Watchmen” news, as today it’s been revealed who will be starring in the series.

Regina King, Don Johnson, Tim Blake Nelson, Louis Gosset Jr., Adelaide Clemens, and Andrew Howard have all been cast in the superhero series, according to Deadline. For those that aren’t familiar with the source material, “Watchmen” is a deconstruction of the superhero genre by showing the more realistic side to superheroes, all set in the era of impending world war. As revealed yesterday, the new series will take its inspiration from the influential comic book series, but go in a new direction, dubbed a “remix” by Lindelof.
There’s been no official word yet on the roles these actors will play, but Deadline has some guesses based on their sources. The report says that King will play Angela Abraham, Gossett Jr. will play Old Man, Howard will play Red Scare, and Clemens will be Pirate Jenny. It’s clear from these roles, Lindelof is making good on his word and not going with the original heroes in the comics.
“Watchmen” will be a reunion of sorts for King and Lindelof. The actress recently appeared in “The Leftovers,” in which Lindelof was the showrunner. Don Johnson is best known for the ‘80s TV series “Miami Vice,” but can most recently be seen in the comedy “Book Club.”
As “Watchmen” is always about a “team” of heroes, we can expect more names to be released soon for the remaining cast. After yesterday’s letter and this cast announcement, the doomsday clock is slowing down just a little bit on this series.
