‘Heels’ Trailer: ‘Loki’ Head Writer Takes On Professional Wrestling In The New Starz Drama

Michael Waldron is probably feeling pretty great right about now. After the six-episode launch of “Loki” on Disney+ became an instant hit and is the first Marvel Studios series to get a Season 2 order, the writer of that series is now ready to launch his next project, the upcoming professional wrestling drama, “Heels.” As seen in the new trailer for “Heels,” the Starz drama is a very different beast than the multiversal superhero hijinks that are found in “Loki.”

“Heels” tells the story of two brothers and their professional wrestling dreams. The series stars Stephen Amell and Alexander Ludwig as two brothers that both love wrestling but have very different ideas of where they should go. Amell’s Jack Spade is the elder statesman that is trying to grow his Georgia-based wrestling league while his younger brother, Ace, is dreaming of the big time, with a possible career in the larger promotions. They literally come to blows in a planned match between them that has more emotion involved than the scripted outcome would have you believe.

As mentioned, Waldron serves as the writer and creator of the series. He’s joined by Mike O’Malley, who is a producer and showrunner of “Heels,” as well as Peter Segal, who directs several episodes and is also a producer.

“Heels” debuts on Starz on August 15.

Here’s the synopsis:

Set in a close-knit Georgia community, “Heels” (starring Stephen Amell (“Arrow”) as Jack Spade, and Alexander Ludwig (The Hunger Games, “Vikings”) as his younger brother, Ace) follows a family-owned wrestling promotion business and the rivalry between two brothers who war over their late father’s legacy. In the ring, somebody must play the good guy and somebody must play their nemesis, the heel. But in the real world, those characters can be hard to live up to – or hard to leave behind.
