With “Stranger Things 4” dominating the streaming charts, now is a great time for one of the stars of the series to branch out and try his hand at directing, huh? That’s exactly what Finn Wolfhard is set to do with “Hell of a Summer.”
According to Deadline, Finn Wolfhard is teaming up with Billy Bryk to write and direct a new horror-comedy titled “Hell of a Summer.” And in addition to writing and directing the film, the duo will also star in the feature alongside “White Lotus” actor, Fred Hechinger. There are no plot details, as of now, but filming is expected to begin this month.
“I am so excited to be co-directing my first feature film,” said Wolfhard. “I get the chance to work with an incredible cast and crew, and to work with a company like 30WEST and Aggregate is a real dream.”
As mentioned, Wolfhard is best known for starring in four seasons of “Stranger Things.” However, he and Bryk both appeared in the recent “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” as well as “When You Finish Saving the World.” Bryk is also known for his role in the TV series, “Wynonna Earp.” Apparently, the duo hit it off during the filming of ‘Afterlife’ and ‘Saving the World’ and have decided to try their hands at directing together for the first time.
Though Wolfhard has yet to direct a feature, the actor has already tried his hand at directing. Back in 2020, he released an acclaimed short film, “Night Shifts.” And way back in 2017, he co-directed a music video for the band, Spendtime Palace. So, clearly, the actor has the desire to do more than just perform in front of the camera.
A release date for “Hell of a Summer” has yet to be announced. Though, if filming begins this summer, a 2023 release is seemingly in the cards.
