'Her Smell': Cara Delevingne Leads The Akergirls In New Music Video From Alex Ross Perry's Latest

Sadly, we are entering the time of the year when the limited release indie films get overshadowed by the big-budget tentpole fare being released by the major studios. And this past weekend, in particular, the massive failure of “Hellboy” and the solid hold of “Shazam” sucked up most of the headlines, leaving Alex Ross Perry’s recently-released “Her Smell” out in the cold. Well, here’s something to remind film fans that there’s more out there than demonic anti-heroes and male power fantasies.

For those not familiar with “Her Smell,” Perry’s latest film follows the story of an aging punk rock star named Becky Something, played by Elisabeth Moss, as she attempts to pick up the pieces of her life, after drugs and mental health issues cratered her own career, by helping mentor an up-and-coming band, The Akergirls.

And in honor of the film’s release this past weekend, the folks behind “Her Smell” released a music video for one of The Akergirls’ songs, “Can’t Wait.” We’ll be honest, the video itself isn’t the most ground-breaking clip to ever be released, but it’s effective, nonetheless. What it is able to do in a short amount of time is entertain with a new song featuring the actresses from the film (Cara Delevingne, Ashley Benson, and Dylan Gelula) and show the gritty, grimy style that Perry is able to showcase in his film.

So, for those hoping for something a bit different than the typical spring/summer multiplex film selection, go out and look for “Her Smell.” It may not be the finest film released all year, but it sure is interesting and worth your time.

Here’s the synopsis:

Becky Something (Elisabeth Moss, The Handmaid’s Tale) is a ’90s rock superstar who once filled arenas with her band Something She. When her excesses derail a national tour, she’s forced to reckon with her past while recapturing the inspiration that led her band to success. Featuring an all-star cast, including Cara Delevingne (Suicide Squad), Dan Stevens (Downton Abbey), Amber Heard (Aquaman), Her Smell is director Alex Ross Perry’s “greatest achievement yet” (The Daily Beast).
