It’s one of the most watched shows on Netflix, it has been critically acclaimed, and there’s no denying that "Daredevil" marks a helluva start for the relationship between Marvel and the streaming giant. Especially following the poorly received 2003 movie, it’s great rebound for the character, who is now living up to the potential he had in the comics panels. But Joss Whedon had actually wanted to give Matt Murdock one more round on the big screen.
“I fought for ‘Daredevil’ to be a film instead of a TV show. Then under the auspices of Drew Goddard and Steven DeKnight… I’m dying to see the show but they released it just as I started the press tour!" he told IGN. So what does he see in the character? Something that Marvel hasn’t quite done yet, a hero that’s more in line with DC Comics‘ Batman, another vigilante of the night, with no particular superpowers, except the skills he enhances himself.
“I like him because he’s basically Marvel’s Batman, thanks to Frank Miller basically. So for me I didn’t think they’d be able to sustain that sort of mood on TV but TV has changed so much. It’s come up so much that I think it might just be the right place,” Whedon admitted.

As he says, he hasn’t watched "Daredevil" yet, but he also concedes that the serialized nature of comics are a good fit for serialized television. But we’re still curious what Whedon’s pitch might’ve been on a new take for Daredevil, and if it would’ve worked in Marvel’s current cinematic universe. Thoughts? Weigh in below.
