Netflix moved pretty swiftly when allegations of sexual harassment and assault surfaced against Kevin Spacey, immediately halting production on “House Of Cards” season six (sidenote: hey guys, when you are going to address Danny Masterson and “The Ranch“?). It quickly emerged, however, the producers and streaming service wanted to salvage what they could, even if it meant removing the lead actor, as legally tricky as that might be. So, the show has been on extended hiatus as the writers try and figure out a new narrative path forward, and the good news is that they have.
Netflix has announced that “House Of Cards” season six will resume production in early 2018. “We are excited to bring closure to fans,” Netflix content chief Ted Sarandos stated. As expected Spacey is gone entirely, and Robin Wright will take the lead of what’s expected to be the sendoff batch of episodes. But don’t forget, there’s already chatter about spinoff series, so the world of “House Of Cards” is likely far from over.
“We were really excited we could get to an agreement… for the conclusion of the show,” Sarandos added.
Not word yet on an air date, but we’re probably look at late 2018 at the earliest. The show is also set to receive a shorter eight-episode order, rather than the standard thirteen, which sounds about right, given that many crew members have other gigs lined up past the original production timelines. Either way, we’re getting one more round of Washington intrigue, but this time with a whole lot more Claire Underwood. Can’t really complain about that. [Variety/THR]
