Every year, thousands of travelers take to Ibiza for a holiday of a lifetime. Between the parties, beaches, music festivals, and sunshine, Ibiza has something for everyone—in Harper’s case, it’s a man.
Harper (Gillian Jacobs) is a thirty-something New Yorker who is sent on a business trip to Barcelona. Naturally, when her two best friends Leah (Phoebe Robinson) and Nikki (Vanessa Bayer) find out, Harper’s business trip turns into a shenanigan-filled girls’ trip that ultimately leads to a romance with a DJ (Richard Madden).
“This is destiny,” Leah points out at one point in the trailer, acting as the voice of reason. “Some people land on the moon. Others cure diseases. You smash this DJ.” You know, typical Ibiza things.
Set to the tune of Nicki Minaj‘s “Pound the Alarm,” the trailer, itself, for “Ibiza” is your cookie-cutter comedy trailer where everyone is yelling and some sort of embarrassing thing happens. It was as if we were watching the trailer for last year’s “Girls Trip,” except for instead of someone peeing because they’re stuck on a zip line, Nikki gets bird poop to the face while living her best life in a limo abroad. Everyone involved in this film, however, is brilliant so there is still hope that all of the best parts were saved for the film. Either way, the film does look like fun and you can never go wrong with Richard Madden.
The film is Lauryn Kahn’s feature film writing debut and is directed by her fellow “Funny or Die” veteran Alex Richanbach. Gary Sanchez, Will Ferrell, Adam McKay, and Kevin Messick, along with Nathan Kahane and Erin Westerman of “Good Universe,” are producers. “Good Universe’s” Kelli Konop and Kahn are executive producers.
The film will be released on Netflix on May 25, 2018.
