Earning mainstream appeal with his role as the drug-slinging Stringer Bell on “The Wire,” Idris Elba is ready to join the law-abiding on the big screen, taking on the titular character in the forthcoming “Cross.”
Based on the novel by James Patterson, the film will find Elba as psychologist Dr. Alex Cross “racks a serial rapist who may have murdered his pregnant wife years before.” If the character seems familiar, you might remember that Morgan Freeman played the role in the films “Kiss the Girls” and “Along Came A Spider.” For Elba, this could be a big step up into a film that could spawn a franchise.
The film will be directed by David Twohy (“Pitch Black,” “A Perfect Getaway”) and has a script by Kerry Williamson with production set to begin early next year. And while we’re glad that the excellent Elba is getting a shot at some big screen glory, we’re mostly hoping he returns to “The Office” next season as Charles Miner.
