Idris Elba & Kate Winslet Are Stranded In The Cold In First Trailer For 'The Mountain Between Us'

On the big screen, love has been tested by almost everything you can imagine, but there are not so many films where survival in the cold can thwart two hearts that are meant to be together. However, in “The Mountain Between Us,” Idris Elba and Kate Winslet will face just such a challenge.

Directed by Hany Abu-Assad (“Omar“), based on the novel by Charles Martin, and shot in the cold lands of Canada, the film follows two strangers who must come together and survive, following a horrific plane crash that leaves them exposed to the elements. And for the Oscar-nominated Dutch-Palestinian director, the film has a very simple theme at its core.

“I think optimism and hope is crucial to survive,” he told USA Today. “And to go on with your life even if you’ve had a lot of bad luck. So if you give (in) to the bad luck, you will die. (But) if you fight the bad luck, you have a better chance to survive and make your life better. This is very simple wisdom, yes? But still very crucial especially in these kind of days, when everybody feels entitled to their good luck.”

“The Mountain Between Us” opens on October 20th.
