As competition like HBO Max seemingly is going through a major change in the coming weeks, it appears that Netflix is still moving full steam ahead, even if the streamer is cutting jobs and supposedly cutting costs. And to prove Netflix is still in the business of high-profile, captial-C Content, the studio has apparently signed a new deal with Dark Horse (the comic book company) to develop some new projects, including a big-budget film, “Bang!”
According to Deadline, Netflix and Dark Horse Entertainment have entered a deal to develop new films and TV shows. And first up in the deal is a film titled “Bang!” from director David Leitch and star Idris Elba. Based on the comic series by Matt Kindt and Wilfredo Torres, “Bang!” is a spy thriller following the world’s best superspy as he has to track down the author of special novels that are putting spells on readers and could lead to the apocalypse. Those hoping Elba would become the next James Bond will likely have to settle for the actor taking the role of a different type of spy.

Joining “Bang!” in development from Netflix/Dark Horse is a new TV series based on the hugely popular comic series, “Mind MGMT,” from producer Curtis Gwinn, who is best known for his work on “Stranger Things.” The series, based on the comic by Matt Kindt, tells the story of a woman who discovers the top-secret Mind Management program. As you might imagine, the story goes off the rails as she ventures down the rabbit hole into a world of mystery and intrigue. This is a bonkers comic book series that could be seen as something akin to the weirdness of “The Umbrella Academy,” but maybe even more strange.
No release dates have been set for these two projects. However, if this is just the beginning of the relationship between Netflix and Dark Horse, there is plenty to be excited about already.
