With Thanksgiving now in the rearview, Hollywood is back in the swing of the Oscar race, and two movies you'll be hearing about a lot this week are "Les Misérables" and "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey." And some nice new one sheets are here as the movies gear up to hit theaters in the coming weeks.
First up, Tom Hooper's take on the famed stage musical screened for folks over the weekend, and the word has been nothing short of ecstatic. There is no doubt that the film is firmly in the Oscar race, and Universal continues to push the epic scale of the movie. This new French poster highlights the main players along with the grandeur and sweep many are expecting from the picture.
Meanwhile, no less epic will be Peter Jackson's "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey," which has a new international poster in advance of the world premiere tomorrow night in Wellington, New Zealand. The director has also used the opportunity to make a final push for 48 fps, hitting Facebook for a brief info session where he says: "…shooting at 48 fps gives you much more of an illusion of real life. The reduced motion blur on each frame increases sharpness and gives the movie the look of having been shot in 65mm or IMAX. One of the biggest advantages is the fact that your eye is seeing twice the number of images each second, giving the movie a wonderful immersive quality," while adding: "I want to draw the audience out of their seats, and pull them into the adventure. That is the experience I hope to offer moviegoers no matter which format they choose at the theater."
