Shonda Rhimes might be best known for her “Grey’s Anatomy” empire on ABC. But since her contract was signed with Netflix, the superstar producer has already released a little show called “Bridgerton.” You may have heard of it. Now, she’s hoping to replicate that streaming success with her new series, “Inventing Anna.”
As seen in the trailer for “Inventing Anna,” the new drama series follows a journalist on the case to investigate Anna Delvey. You see, Anna Delvey is a social media influencer who is deeply embedded in the New York City social scene. But she may not be what she presents herself to be, and she might just be a con artist.
The new series stars Anna Chlumsky, Julia Garner, Arian Moayed, Katie Lowes, Alexis Floyd, Anders Holm, Anna Deavere Smith, Jeff Perry, Terry Kinney, and Laverne Cox. As mentioned, the series is produced by Rhimes, who also serves as creator and showrunner. She’s also one of the writers, in a group that includes Matt Byrne, Jess Brownell, Abby Ajayi, and Nick Nardini.
“Inventing Anna” hits Netflix on February 11. You can watch the trailer below.
Here’s the synopsis:
In Inventing Anna, a journalist with a lot to prove investigates the case of Anna Delvey, the Instagram-legendary German heiress who stole the hearts of New York’s social scene – and stole their money as well. But is Anna New York’s biggest con woman, or is she simply the new portrait of the American dream? Anna and the reporter form a dark, funny, love-hate bond as Anna awaits trial and our reporter fights the clock to answer the biggest question in NYC: who is Anna Delvey? The series is inspired by the New York Magazine article “How an Aspiring ‘It’ Girl Tricked New York’s Party People — and its Banks” by Jessica Pressler, who also serves as a producer.
