Got a Tip?

Rumor Of The Day: Is ‘Indiana Jones 5’ Shooting Next Year? Plot To Involve The Bermuda Triangle?

This is far from fact yet, and the source is fairly random — an anonymous tipster in a New Zealand news outlet — but hell, we’ll run with it anyway (it is a pretty slow, boring day).

According to the Kiwi site Stuff, “Indiana Jones 5” will begin shooting next year with Harrison Ford and Shia LaBeouf — who recently admitted “Indiana Jones & The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull” was crap — set to reprise their respective roles. According to the source, “George (Lucas) and Steven (Spielberg) have been working on a script and it’s almost there,” adding that “Harrison is on stand-by for filming next year. This looks like being an emotional and exciting conclusion to the franchise, with Indy facing his biggest challenge yet.”

The plot will apparently take Mutt, Indiana and whoever else to the Bermuda Triangle with the source saying, “…this will be a blockbuster made in the old fashioned way rather than the CGI efforts of the last movie.”

So what do we think of all this? We think George Lucas making a movie without any CGI is an impossibility, and doesn’t the very nature of setting the film in the Bermuda Triangle practically ask for extensive effects work? As for the the prospect of “Indiana Jones 5,” we don’t see why it wouldn’t happen. The idea has been batted around since last year and Lord knows, Lucas likes to return the well, and certainly his fanbase follows him no matter how diminishing the returns continue to be. Harrison Ford certainly wouldn’t say no to cashing another paycheck and LaBeouf might want to be part of trying to end of franchise on positive note (though, given where “Star Wars” has ended up, we’re not holding our breath).

We’re sure more news/denials/no comments will come down official channels shortly until then, let the speculation run wild.
