Is The Inevitable 'Zombieland' Sequel Soon To Be In The Works?

So “Zombieland,” was essentially made for a song (not an expensive cast), lo-fi, but not cheap effects, etc. etc. and raked in an impressive $25 million dollars at the box-office this weekend.

So time for the inevitable sequel? While it hasn’t been discussed by Sony officially yet (though after this weekend, all their text messages to each other were surely, “Are you thinking what I’m thinking?”), some of the cast and players are saying they would love to revisit “Zombieland.”

“We would love it, and everyone involved creatively wants to do another one,” co-writer Paul Wernick, one of the screenwriters, told MTV last week. “Woody [Harrelson] came up to us after the final cut of the last scene and gave us a hug and said, ‘I’ve never wanted to do a sequel in the previous movies I’ve done until this one.’ ”

Essentially all they need is a green light because there is no lacking in ideas. “It has lived in our heads for four-and-a-half years,” Wernick said also indicating the core group, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, Abigail Breslin and director Ruben Fleischer, would all likely return if they received a thumb’s up. “We’ve got a long brainstorming document that still to this day gets updated on a near-weekly basis with ideas. We’ve got tons of new ideas swimming in our head.”

Is it only a matter of time until the semi-fresh zom-com sub-genre gets run into the ground like its forefather has? Maybe we should wait a few weeks to see if this thing can crack the $100 million mark.
