'It Lives Inside' Trailer: Bishal Dutta's SXSW Award-Winning Horror Film Arrives Later This Year

One of the best things about a focus on diversity and inclusion in film is that the mainstream horror genre is getting an infusion of other cultures and perspectives. No longer are horror films completely overrun with white people running from the boogeyman in every slasher. And this is shown in the new film, “It Lives Inside.”

After winning an award at SXSW, NEON is bringing “It Lives Inside” to theaters later this year. The film tells the story of a young Indian teen trying to fit in at school, while her former best friend is dealing with something… evil. You see, there’s a demonic force literally living inside of a jar, and the girl’s former best friend is doing what it takes to keep it at bay. The film pulls heavily from Indian folklore to create a monstrous entity that we really haven’t seen in mainstream horror.

“It Lives Inside” stars Megan Suri, Neeru Bajwa, Mohana Krishnan, Betty Gabriel, Vik Sahhay, Gage Marsh, Jenaya Ross, and Beatrice Kitsos. The film is written and directed by Bishal Dutta, who is making his feature film directorial debut with “It Lives Inside.”

“It Lives Inside” doesn’t have an official release date and NEON just says it’s coming soon. You can watch the trailer below.

Here’s the synopsis:

Sam is desperate to fit in at school, rejecting her Indian culture and family to be like everyone else. When a mythological demonic spirit latches onto her former best friend, she must come to terms with her heritage in order to defeat it.
