Jack Black & Paul Rudd To Star In 'Anaconda' Reimagining From Director Tom Gormican

Do you guys remember “Anaconda?” It’s ok if you don’t because it’s not a great film. But the film stars Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube, and Jon Voight and tells the story of a group of people who go off into the jungle and come face to face with a massive, murderous anaconda snake. By and large, the film is terrible, but there are a few standout, meme-worthy scenes. Now, it should be of no surprise that a studio is ready to reboot the film.

According to THR, Jack Black and Paul Rudd are being eyed to star in a remake of “Anaconda.” The film is expected to be directed by Tom Gormican, who co-wrote the script alongside Kevin Etten. Gormican is probably best known for his recent film with Nicolas Cage, “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent.”

The report claims the new film is about two friends who venture off into the jungle in hopes of remaking a favorite film from their youth. Except, when they get there, things take a turn for the worse. It really does feel like the perfect film for a filmmaker like Gormican.

This new film is far from the only sequel/reboot in the “Anaconda” franchise. Seven years after the release of the first film, 2004 saw the release of “Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid.” Then came “Anaconda 3: Offspring” and “Anacondas 4: Trail of Blood.” The most recent entry in the franchise is 2015’s “Lake Placid vs. Anaconda,” which saw the alligator-centric “Lake Placid” franchise crossover with the snake franchise. As you can see, there hasn’t been a big-budget entry in the film series in quite some time.

There’s no release date set for the new film.
